AI SEO for solar panel installers starts with accurate, useful service information: what you install or support, where you work, how you assess a site, what your proposal means and how buyers can verify your experience. Connect that information with genuine installations on accessible pages and research how AI-assisted search represents the business.

A homeowner comparing PV, an existing customer researching batteries and a facilities manager planning commercial solar need different answers. The business aim is suitable enquiries and delivered paid projects. An advice citation, installer recommendation and completed installation each measure something different.

What AI SEO, AEO and GEO mean for solar installers

GEO means generative engine optimisation; AEO means answer engine optimisation. These overlapping industry terms describe work around discovery and representation in generated answers. They do not establish a separate guaranteed ranking system.

Different activities need different measures
ActivityPurposeUseful outcome
Local and organic SEOMake genuine services and coverage findableSuitable organic enquiries

ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode and other assistants may return different answers and sources. Record the product, mode and whether search occurred. A Business Profile supports local discovery; it should not be described as a universal feed into every assistant.

Start discovery questions without naming your business. Run separate branded checks for service, coverage and credential accuracy. An assistant describing the company you supplied does not establish that an unfamiliar buyer would discover it.

An eight-step AI visibility plan for solar panel installers

1. Record a useful starting sample

Select service, area, assessment and comparison questions. Save exact wording, product, mode, date, geographic context, companies named and cited URLs. Retain missing and incorrect answers alongside favourable ones.

Read the cited pages and identify the supported claim. An article about battery storage can be cited without its publisher being recommended to install a battery. Keep an advice citation, company mention and provider recommendation separate.

Use a fresh conversation for repeatable discovery checks and record relevant context. This reduces one source of variation without making results identical across users or products. A few favourable screenshots are not a market-wide ranking.

2. Approve business facts and service boundaries

Create a brief covering trading identity, public contact routes, actual services, viable areas, hours, assessment, quotation and support. Identify the domestic, commercial, battery, maintenance or developer work the team genuinely delivers.

List accepted equipment and actual manufacturer relationships accurately. Verify credentials and their scope before using logos or certification claims. An agency should not infer a capability simply because a related technology appears in keyword research.

The responsible installer approves technical, generation, savings, warranty and support statements. Keep design estimates, measured output, customer bill changes and financial payback distinct. Funding, tariff, tax or finance content needs current verification before publication; an AI draft is not evidence of eligibility.

3. Build useful service and area pages

Useful solar page themes
ThemeCustomer informationEvidence to connect
Domestic PVActual installation scope, survey and proposalRelevant completed domestic projects
Batteries and retrofitsAccepted services and compatibility assessmentGenuine battery installations
Commercial solarSite types, project scope and stakeholdersActual commercial delivery
Ground-mounted or developer workCapabilities, scale and project processRelevant work where genuinely offered
Maintenance and supportAccepted systems, services and limitsReal support experience
Genuine coverageViable areas and enquiry routeRelevant projects and useful local context

These are planning themes, not a requirement to offer every service or create every page. Reuse a page that answers the decision. Separate a destination when the buyer, scope or evidence genuinely differs, and consolidate overlapping terms or thin duplicates.

A commercial provider may serve a wider geography than a domestic team. Explain real reach and delivery capacity. A town page does not establish a staffed office, and producing every service-and-postcode combination does not establish local experience.

Answer proposal questions using the installer’s actual process: assessment, equipment options, scope, assumptions, exclusions, timing and aftercare. State what an estimate includes and what still needs checking. A generated market price is not your quotation.

4. Publish genuine installation evidence

A useful project explains the broad location, customer need, actual installed scope, equipment, assessment and delivery context. Identify what was forecast and what was later measured, without implying every site will perform identically.

Suggested solar project record
FieldInformation to approve
ContextBroad town, property or site type and customer requirement
AssessmentRelevant site information and approved design decisions
DeliveryActual equipment and work completed
EstimateGeneration or savings assumptions, date and limitations
Measured outcomeWhat was observed, over which period and with what scope
EvidenceAuthentic photographs, dates and permitted feedback

Link projects to relevant services and genuine working areas. Use photos with permission and protect precise addresses, serial numbers, account details and private documents. Captions should describe the actual installation and timing.

Generated visuals may explain a concept but must not masquerade as completed customer work. Do not invent installations, testimonials, credentials or measured savings. If evidence is limited, describe current capabilities honestly and collect stronger records as projects complete.

5. Maintain accurate profiles and honest feedback

Follow Google’s business guidance for the real trading name, relevant available categories, premises and actual services. Select categories against what the business does rather than add electrical-supply or other unrelated categories to chase visibility.

Follow service-area address rules where customers do not visit the premises, including hiding a home address when appropriate. A registered address is not proof of a staffed branch. Keep public contact routes and credentials accurate across relevant directories and genuine trade listings.

Google’s review rules prohibit incentives, selectively seeking positive reviews and requests for specific content. Invite honest feedback consistently and let customers choose their own words and rating. Do not prescribe system sizes, equipment brands, towns, savings figures or five stars.

A review quota, photo count or posting routine does not guarantee AI inclusion. Respond usefully to feedback without turning replies into repetitive keyword lists or revealing private project details.

6. Check access, inclusion settings and accurate markup

Google’s current guidance retains the SEO foundations: useful original information, accessible pages, indexing and snippet eligibility. It requires no special AI file, special schema or fixed answer length. Its systems do not use llms.txt for Search visibility.

Review important content, internal links, canonical URLs, redirects and mobile enquiry routes. Investigate actual crawl or hosting restrictions. JavaScript alone does not establish inaccessibility. Eligibility does not guarantee display, and there is no universal top-ten prerequisite established here.

Google’s Search generative AI control manages inclusion in applicable features. Check the effective property setting and any inherited parent setting. This differs from training controls and does not replace indexing requirements.

OpenAI separates crawler purposes: OAI-SearchBot supports search, GPTBot concerns potential training use and ChatGPT-User handles certain user-triggered visits. Review search access and training preferences separately. Access does not compel a citation.

Use valid LocalBusiness or other appropriate business vocabulary and Service markup matching visible accurate facts. Follow Google’s structured-data policies. Do not invent a SolarInstaller or project-specific AI schema requirement, hidden credentials or private coordinates to manufacture trust.

7. Answer buying questions and earn relevant references

Explain the real survey, proposal, assessment, installation and aftercare process. Put a clear answer near a descriptive heading, followed by useful detail. Writing does not need to fit a fixed word count or repeat every possible long-tail phrase.

For pricing, savings or suitability questions, explain approved assumptions and what needs assessment. Do not present an AI-generated response as a site diagnosis or guaranteed investment outcome. Give buyers a clear route to the responsible installer.

Genuine project coverage, relevant partner references, verified trade listings and expert contributions can help buyers assess a business. Agree authority-building and digital PR evidence, scope, rights and external costs.

Qualify paid placements under Google’s link policies. Paid coverage is not automatically independent endorsement. Do not manufacture customer recommendations, forum discussions or purported third-party evidence.

8. Repeat observations and prioritise useful changes

Repeat the agreed sample after material improvements and at a practical interval. Keep wording and context comparable, retain sources and include unfavourable answers. Correct inaccurate services, coverage, credentials or contact routes in the underlying records.

Answers can change with product, model, sources and context. Disclose when a test adds a platform or changes its counting rules. Do not attribute every change to one page edit or describe unlike samples as a controlled before-and-after result.

What the reviewed solar AI evidence establishes

Different sources demonstrate different things

Tenacious July indexDated questions and named-provider observationsInspect methodology and avoid unlike score comparisons
SEOmonitorDocumented sampling, weighting and coverage rulesRead actual questions, dates and answers
Aurora SolarLead capture, modelling and proposal workflow propositionValidate UK delivery, approved assumptions and actual operational results

Tenacious’s July 2026 report records ten UK-focused commercial solar and renewables questions across four models, collected on 10 July. It counts a provider once per model and question and ranks breadth of model agreement before total mentions. For example, it reports 31 of 40 possible appearances for Geo Green Power in that sample.

June used three models and a different scoring structure. The publisher therefore labels month-to-month movement directional rather than raw scores directly comparable. This is dated sampled visibility evidence, not current service quality, market share, installer endorsement or completed-project revenue.

SEOmonitor’s methodology translates database keywords into questions, checks ChatGPT and AI Overviews and weights observations by Google search volume. It separates names from page citations and documents coverage limits, including excluded low-volume keywords. Its research index is a snapshot, distinct from selected campaign tracking. Google search volume does not measure private assistant conversations. Inspect the exact questions, dates, markets and underlying answers before treating a score as business performance.

Aurora Solar’s workflow article describes website lead capture from an address and bill estimate, modelling, qualification and interactive proposals. It is a vendor-authored product explanation with US-context examples, not evidence of UK acquisitions from external AI recommendations. Confirm current UK availability, imagery coverage, tariff and equipment support, integrations, charges and responsible review. Estimated generation and savings should remain labelled estimates with approved assumptions.

This is an evidence guide, not a ranked software shortlist. A sampled recommendation, software feature and completed-installation record answer different questions. Historic SEO or advertising cases should not be relabelled as AI referral outcomes.

Use AI estimates, reception and follow-up within approved rules

An assistant can collect service, site postcode, customer role, existing system, timing and useful broad requirements. It can explain approved next steps and escalate uncertainty. Unknown equipment, roof or commercial-site information should not trigger an invented answer.

Keep enquiry received, indicative estimate, assessment required, survey booked, survey attended, approved proposal, contract, installation and payment distinct. An automated acknowledgement should not silently confirm compatibility, final design, savings, finance approval or crew availability.

Test out-of-area requests, unknown systems, incomplete data, different roof types, battery retrofits, maintenance enquiries and commercial projects with several stakeholders. Include changed assumptions, duplicate contacts, cancellations, failed integrations and handover to a responsible person.

Before using a design or estimate tool, validate supported geography, imagery, equipment, tariffs, calculation rules and current software scope. A model or calculator is not the same as completed competent assessment. Version approved assumptions so the team can explain what a customer saw.

Agree customer-record access, exports, retention, usage charges and integrations. Collect only needed information through the agreed process. Public project pages and visibility tests do not need complete addresses, electricity bills or unredacted documents.

AI can draft service explanations, captions, follow-ups and review replies from approved facts. Review technical claims, credentials, prices, schemes, warranties and outcomes before publishing. Generative content and automated review requests do not justify invented evidence or selective positive-review routing.

A CRM, AI receptionist, staffed follow-up, design tool and external AI visibility research are different purchases. An enquiry form available overnight does not establish round-the-clock site visits. Measure administrative improvements separately from external discovery.

Measure AI visibility and delivered installations separately

A practical AI visibility and solar customer record

Question samplePrompt, product, mode, date and contextRepeatable observations
Mention and accuracyBusiness named and factual claimsVisibility and representation
CitationURL and supported claimAdvice source or provider recommendation
Google AI impressionsAvailable report and dimensionsSupported Google visibility

Customer progressionQualification, survey, proposal, delivery and paymentSupported commercial outcomes

Google’s Generative AI performance report includes supported AI Overviews and AI Mode impressions with page, country, date and device dimensions. It may be absent when impressions are insufficient. It does not record every assistant mention or the whole customer journey.

Combine available reporting, analytics and enquiry records. Ask how customers found you where useful, separating self-reported discovery from an observed referral. A buyer may research with an assistant and return directly later; avoid false precision in attribution.

Record project type, broad site context, postcode, suitability, survey attendance, proposal, contract, installation and collected payment. Handle duplicates, losses and cancellations. Commercial work may require several stakeholders and approval stages.

For an arithmetic illustration, £900 in total acquisition costs divided by three completed paid installations is £300 per installation. Compare this with contribution after equipment, surveys, labour, access, travel and other delivery costs. These are assumptions, not predicted solar results; include all relevant costs and the time lag to delivery.

A useful report shows work published, factual corrections, sampled mentions and citations, available impressions, identifiable referrals and supported customer outcomes. A small question sample is not market-wide share of voice. No universal month-twelve AI lead-cost figure is established by these sources.

How Built for Local can help solar panel installers

We can agree actual-service and genuine coverage pages, approved solar-service and installation evidence, relevant authority work and a repeatable AI-answer research sample. The work should identify what will be implemented, published and reviewed, with clear access and approval responsibilities.

Website and ongoing local SEO is £499/month with no setup fee. BFL charges no VAT. The first 30 days are free within a three-service-month commitment. The following two monthly periods cost £499 each (£998 total), then the service continues at £499/month until cancelled under the terms.

The agreed launch includes core pages, up to ten service pages and a primary town plus up to five genuine nearby areas. Continuing work includes agreed content, local-profile support, internal links, technical SEO, hosting, maintenance and reporting. Suitable existing-site SEO starts from £499/month.

Authority management starts from £299/month plus approved external costs. Digital PR and AI visibility research need agreed deliverables and reporting; neither guarantees publication or recommendations.

Google Ads management is separately £499/month for media up to £2,000/month. Media is additional and paid directly to Google; higher spend needs a separate management quote. Facebook and Instagram management is £499/month plus media, with scope agreed. The free website-plan period does not make advertising management or media free.

Integrations, quoting tools, new photography, software and staffed enquiry handling need explicit agreement. Our portfolio shows wider trade website work, not measured solar-installation AI acquisition results.

For an active partnership, we agree the trade and primary town and do not actively market a direct competitor in that combination. Website ownership transfers after the initial commitment and payment of outstanding fees, subject to platform and third-party licensing. Seven days’ cancellation notice applies under our terms. Optional hosting or maintenance can continue under the agreed terms. Ongoing SEO ends with the main plan.

Research note: six supplied searches informed these topics. Primary platform, publisher and provider information was reviewed on 28 October 2026. Suggested prompts are our research framework, not measured demand. Provider reports and capabilities are not independently audited. Dated research samples and software propositions are not acquisition forecasts.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions we hear often.

What is AI SEO for solar panel installers?+

It is work intended to improve discovery and accurate representation in AI-assisted search. Explain actual services, genuine coverage, assessment and proposals on accessible pages supported by real installation experience. GEO and AEO are overlapping industry labels; recommendations are not guaranteed.

How can a solar installer get found in ChatGPT?+

Publish useful service information and genuine project evidence, review search access and test neutral buyer questions. Run branded accuracy checks separately. Record the product, mode, date, context and cited sources instead of assuming every assistant uses the same index or signals.

Is special schema required for Google AI Overviews?+

Google does not require special AI markup, an llms.txt file or a fixed answer length. Check indexing, snippet eligibility and applicable Search generative AI inclusion settings. Accurate structured data can support the wider website without guaranteeing display.

Should solar customers be asked to put system size and town names in reviews?+

Invite honest feedback without incentives, selective positive requests or prescribed wording. Google prohibits requests for specific review content. Customers choose their own words and rating; do not ask for equipment names, locations, savings figures or five stars as a ranking tactic.

Do solar installers need a page for every town and technology?+

No. Prioritise genuine coverage and useful distinct information. Separate a service or location when the customer decision and evidence justify it. Consolidate synonyms and thin duplicates rather than create every service-and-postcode combination.

What are TOFU, MOFU and BOFU prompts?+

They organise researching a need, comparing options and choosing a provider. The 24 examples in this guide are suggested research questions, not measured search volumes, private conversations or proof of local demand.

Can an AI estimate confirm suitability and guaranteed solar savings?+

Treat estimates according to approved assumptions and limits. Property information, system compatibility, design and outcomes may require responsible assessment. Keep enquiry, estimate, survey, approved proposal, contract, installation and payment as separate stages.

Does AI solar software prove external AI recommendations?+

No. A website widget, design tool, receptionist, sampled mention and external provider recommendation are different evidence. Visibility needs exact questions, products, dates, context and sources. Customer outcomes need appropriate attribution and records.

How should solar AI visibility be measured?+

Record prompts, product, mode, date, context, mentions, accuracy and cited URLs. Review available Google AI impressions and identifiable referrals separately from suitable enquiries, surveys, proposals, installations and payments. A small prompt sample is not market-wide share.

How can Built for Local help with solar AI SEO?+

We can agree service and coverage content, genuine installation evidence, relevant authority work and AI-answer research. Website and ongoing local SEO is £499/month with no setup fee. Suitable existing-site SEO starts from £499/month. Optional authority management starts from £299/month plus approved external costs.
